At Pigeon Candles, our mission is to provide exceptional candles while minimizing our environmental impact. We are dedicated to crafting non-toxic candles with natural and sustainable ingredients, reducing plastic waste through eco-friendly packaging and containers, and ensuring carbon neutral shipping. By illuminating lives responsibly, we aim to inspire others to join us in making sustainable choices for a brighter and greener future.
For this reason, we have set the goal of becoming a Certified B Corporation in 2024. In the meantime, here are some things we’ve been doing to have a positive impact on our environment.
We donate at least 2% of our revenue.
From the beginning, Pigeon has been committed to operating in a sustainable manner. As of January 2021, we’re proud to be part of 1% for the Planet - a growing movement of businesses committed to donating 1% of all profits to nonprofit organizations focused on improving the environment.
At Pigeon Candles, we take this commitment one step further by donating a minimum of 2% of revenue each year.
We ship carbon neutral.
Each package is shipped carbon neutral. This means that we balance out the amount of carbon emitted from each shipment by investing in projects that reduce carbon emissions in the atmosphere.
We’re committed to supporting the local economy.
We are proud to be a part of the vibrant Kansas City, MO community. We are committed to supporting our local economy and fostering a sense of community by serving at least 75% of our clients and customers from the local Kansas City area. We believe in the power of small businesses and the positive impact they have on our city. By choosing Pigeon Candles, you are not only indulging in our high-quality, handcrafted candles but also contributing to the growth and sustainability of local enterprises. We are dedicated to creating meaningful connections with our local customers and supporting the unique character of our community.
We source renewable supplies whenever possible.
Each candle is made from 100% American-grown soy wax from renewable sources. Soy wax is an eco-friendly alternative to paraffin wax and allows for a clean, natural burn.
We use lead-free, cotton wicks coated in bee's wax to ensure a longer burn.
Our vessels are designed to be reusable to prevent waste.
All candles are sulfate, paraben, lead, petroleum, and cruelty-free.
Our boxes and packaging materials are made from recycled materials. We are in the process of transitioning to 100% recycled packaging materials.
Our packaging is (almost) plastic free.
Each individual order is packaged in a single cardboard mailing box and protected with recycled paper material. Our shipping labels are printed on 100% recycled paper and each individual box is secured with a vinyl label. We are in the process of transitioning our vinyl labels to recycled paper.
We support the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
With less than 10 years left to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we at Pigeon are committed to operating our business with these goals in mind. We are in the process of completing the SDG Action Manager assessment, a tool created by B Labs and the UN Global Compact to track action and process towards achieving the SDGs within business.
